Specialist Billing: Cardiology and Internal Medicine

Billing for cardiology and internal medicine is easy, as most of the time a simple sequence can be followed.

Let's start with billing for cardiology. Assuming that a patient is referred to the cardiologist, and the cardiologist continues to see the patient until discharge, the sequence of billing codes goes like this:

MRP= most responsible physician

First visit: A605 (cardiology consult) + K960 and K990 (special visit + travel) + E082 (MRP premium)
Day 1 (day after first visit): C122 + E083 (MRP premium)
Day 2 (2 days after first visit): C123 + E083
Subsequent Visits (all visits after Day 2 until discharge): C602 +E083
Discharge: C124 + E083

Billing for internal medicine is very similar. Assuming that a patient is referred to the internal medicine specialist, and the specialist continues to see the patient until discharge, the sequence of billing codes goes like this:

First visit: A135 (internal medicine consult) + K960 and K990 (special visit + travel) + E082 (MRP premium)
Day 1(day after first visit):  C122 + E083 (MRP premium)
Day 2(2 days after first visit):  C123 + E083
Subsequent Visits(all visits after Day 2 until discharge):  C132 +E083
Discharge: C124 + E083

For the basic cardiology and internal medicine cases, the billing sequence recipes above should help you.
